Becoming Net Zero

Farrall's Group sustainability
At Farrall’s Group, sustainability isn’t just a priority—it’s a commitment. We are dedicated to operating in a way that protects our planet for future generations, which is why Farrall’s Group has committed to reducing & offsetting carbon emissions to achieve net zero.
Our efforts span the length and breadth of the business, from our warehousing facilities, to our fleet of vehicles, not to mention the way in which we encourage and inspire our team to live and work more sustainably.
Below we outline some of the key ways in which Farrall’s has improved our practices towards more sustainable operations.

Urban Electric Deliveries

In 2024 we added the DAF XB to our fleet of vehicles. Utilised for deliveries throughout the North West, it is powered by green electricity generated at our headquarters in Deeside.

This strategic move has underscored our commitment to sustainability and reducing our carbon footprint.

Farrall’s energy source

Traditional fossil fuels are a major source of greenhouse gas emissions not just during combustion, but their entire lifecycle. Extracting, refining, and transporting the fuels emit significant amounts of CO₂ and other harmful pollutants to the atmosphere, contributing to global warming and air pollution. To effectively reduce emissions and move toward achieving net zero, it was crucial for us to take a comprehensive approach that considers every stage of this lifecycle. This ensures that any changes we implement are truly sustainable and long-lasting, providing an environmentally-friendly solution that stands the test of time.

With the anticipated arrival of the DAF XB, we quickly committed to powering it through sustainable, renewable sources, eliminating reliance on non-renewable energy. Our Deeside depot is now powered by 1,400 solar panels that harness solar energy to generate clean, green electricity. Producing a surplus of over 310,000 kWh annually, these panels allow us to operate our depot efficiently and sustainably, setting a strong standard for renewable energy integration across our operations.

Future plans

In order to achieve our net zero goal, we are dedicated to embracing innovative technologies that will not only shape the future of our business but also the future of logistics.

In the near future, we will be fitting the second half of the roof on our Deeside depot with further solar panels and, of course, expanding our fleet of electric vehicles.

By pioneering our work in sustainable practices within logistics, we aim to set a positive example within the industry and ultimately inspire others to follow suit.

Tree planting

One of our biggest green initiatives is our Farrall’s Group Family Forest.

So far, we have planted over 1,700 trees which, over their lifetime, will capture the same amount of carbon as we produce in 1 year.

With an area of 15 acres available to plant we will continue our planting scheme and allow this area to grow wild throughout the summer, creating a thriving environment for insects and other wildlife.
